Coastal Community Protection – Margate

Coastal Community Protection – During the COVID-19 Pandemic, please do not visit Margate in Kent, unless it really is necessary. Margate, like many other coastal towns is experiencing an influx of visitors, holidaymakers, day-trippers. The local community is going to extraordinary lengths to protect themselves, family, friends and neighbours from the COVID-19 virus. Many businesses have closed their doors to reduce the spread of the virus. A large part of our community are adhering to government advice and self isolating. In general, the people of Margate are doing a great job in protecting loved ones, family, friends and the community as a whole.

It is heartbreaking to watch holiday makers or day trippers come to the town and totally disregard social distancing advice, putting themselves and our community in danger. Further steps do unfortunately need to be taken, and in the words of our leaders ‘Whatever it takes’ seems appropriate justification for reasonable actions taken to protect us all.

Of course it’s not only Margate facing this danger, other coastal towns and inland parks are seeing the same stupidity. Until this virus really hits home, many people are unwittingly endangering lives in their quest to carry on as normal, perhaps once this mentality was seen as a strength, but today it’s most certainly a weakness.

Travellers – Smarten up – Stay away until it’s safe to visit.
